Harnessing AI with Canva

Harnessing AI with Canva

Canva has become one of those brands that has seamlessly woven itself into the fabric of our lives, making it one of the most valuable private software companies in the world.

Widely renowned for its user-friendly accessibility and flexibility, serving as a valuable resource for individuals, small businesses, nonprofits, and large enterprises alike. Canva enables them to craft polished visual content for diverse needs.  It has been widely used for social media marketing, presentations, branding, and much more.

You can access Canva through a web browser extension or as an application on Mac, PC, Chromebook, iOS, or Android devices.

Here are four key aspects of Canva:

          • Templates: pre-designed layouts that can be used for a variety of purposes (for example, to produce presentations, movies, advertisements, business cards, infographics, or charts).
          • A user-friendly editor that allows you to effortlessly rearrange elements within a template using drag-and-drop functionality.
          • ‘elements’: royalty-free pictures, movies, and graphics that you may use to customize your Canva layouts.
          • AI tools: AI features that allow you to develop new material for your projects (or change old designs in novel ways).

Canva also allows you to alter the typefaces and colors used on a template, as well as build new templates.

Simply choose a template, add content, make adjustments, and then export your design for online use or printing with ease.

Canva AI

Now, there are additional avenues to breathe life into your ideas.  Magic Media, Imagen by Google Cloud, and DALLE by OpenAI are picture generating programs that allow you to create unique images, art, and even video from a basic description in seconds.

In 2023, as Canva, the online design platform, marks its 10th anniversary, it introduces Magic Design—a fresh set of AI-driven design tools.  The goal is to enhance accessibility to content creation for individuals, regardless of their prior design expertise.

Canva’s Magic Design tool is a feature that uses artificial intelligence to help you create stunning visual content in seconds.  You can use it to design presentations, videos, social posts, and more by simply describing what you want to see, or uploading your own media.  Magic Design will then generate a curated list of personalized and customizable templates that match your request.

Some of the benefits of using Canva’s Magic Design tool are:

          • It saves you time and effort by creating a first draft for you.
          • It boosts your creativity by giving you different options and styles to choose from.
          • It assists in attaining a polished and uniform appearance for your brand or project.
          • It integrates with other Canva AI features, such as Magic Edit, Magic Switch, and Magic Media, to further enhance your design.

You can access it from the Canva homepage, or from any design page by clicking on the Magic Design button on the left panel.  Begin by typing in your prompt, upload your media, or select a style preset, and wait for Magic Design to work its magic.  You can also edit, customize, or download your design as you wish. As of now, Magic DesignBeta  is free to use in Canva (without the need for Canva pro subscription).
